The Insular Obama Administration?

Paul Krugman started today’s column with this:

According to news reports, the Obama administration — which seemed, over the weekend, to be backing away from the “public option” for health insurance — is shocked
and surprised at the furious reaction from progressives.

Well, I’m shocked and surprised at their shock and surprise.

Ignore for a second the right or wrongness of the Administration’s policy, just who were they talking with if they couldn’t see the progressive outrage coming? Seriously, what news sources, personal contacts, or polling are you following to not see this coming?

Since we’ve started engaging as Carrots and Stick we’ve noticed that the White House is far and away the hardest part of government to reach. Apparently it’s really, really hard because the entire Progressive infrastructure that helped elect Obama and make health care reform the national priority couldn’t even make them aware of their chief objective.

Maybe they weren’t paying any attention at all, but were merely taking for granted that we had nowhere else to go? That would be in keeping with the Clintonian aspects of this administration (so far).
